RE: To all 5ver drivers, a ? 4 U.

NO more duallys for me. I would go with the 3/4 ton 4x4 or a 1 ton SRW 4x4 myself. I have owned all, check my pictures.
It’s not like the old days where you had a significant difference in the mileage between a 2x4 and 4x4. As a matter of fact my 1 ton 4x4 SRW got 3 miles to the gallon better than my 1 ton 2x4 dually.
The traction on the dually sucked!

RE: Dodge 3500 diesel single axle 4.10

If you do any hwy driving stay away from it. Poor mileage. I would look for the 3.73 with fuel prices only going up.

RE: A "How To?" Displaying The Flag Question

Speaking of Colorado, whatever you do don't get Rene Marie to sing the National Anthem, like what happened in Denver yesterday. It was a disgrace as far as I’m concerned.

RE: Early Parking for Topsail

have you ever stayed at Topsail in late Feb? How is the weather at that time of the year?
January & February are the coldest months. Usually in the 50s or 60s for the high with few clouds. Temps sometimes reach the 70s with little or no wind.
But when a cold front blows in, the winds can be high from the North, causing the water to be rough. It can freeze but usually only last a couple of nights in a row if it does. Nothing you can’t handle. You don’t have worry about taking any precautions with your unit.
The beaches are mostly deserted.
It's beautiful tho, that time of year when the wind is calm the water is extra clear and has more than usual color.

Just for knowledge

A general rule of thumb: A dollar increase in the crude oil price per barrel will result in a 2.5-cent increase in the price of diesel fuel per gallon. Likewise, a dollar decrease in the WTI crude oil price per barrel will result in a 2.5-cent decrease in the price of diesel fuel per gallon.

RE: 2008 jetta diesel fuel mpg !!

My wife's gets about 40 with mixed driving, 45+ all highway. Some diesels go together better than others and you'll find a few guys getting 60+ mpg out of the early 2000s VWs. Check out Fred's TDI club for more info.
Interesting, I have been getting 26 city and 31 to 33 highway with my Jetta gasser 2.5 6 speed auto. Looks like the government says it gets less. With the cost of diesel, maintenance, and initial cost I don't see an advantage. When I was looking at them the asking price for the TDI's were 4k+ more.
I agree, I wouldn’t own diesel except for towing now days. Not worth it. The days of diesel being cheaper are long gone. The higher the price of a barrel of oil the more the spread between the price gas and diesel is.

RE: Dry camping questions

You will want to fill your fresh water tank prior to getting to your site ideally. Depending on far you have to go, it's best that you fill your tank right before getting to your site. That way you don't have to travel with all that extra weight.
Secondly dumping your gray water has nothing to do with your water heater. Two different systems
You should always make sure that you turn off your water heater prior to leaving your camping site. If not you can burn it up if you plug your unit back in and you don't have any water going to it or if your running it off of propane forgeting to turn it off. Whether it be shore water or water from your tank. You can have a full water tank but if you don’t have your pump on you will still burn it up

RE: Why people can't afford to travel this year.

I sold my rig, and yes I have plenty of cash on hand. I'm looking into buying a vacation cabin in the mountains right now. The bid is in!
My wife and I have been blessed from the get go.

RE: Brake controller-is it working?

First off, don"t believe anything your dealer told you on what the proper setting is on the GM IBC. The only way to set it correctly (and read you manual on this) is to take it out of the road and do a series of test stops. I'd get it up to about 25 mph and use push the manual lever all the way to its stop and see how the whole rig stops. Start at 3.5 and keep going up until the trailer can stop the whole rig without locking up the trailer brakes (probably won't be able to do that no matter how high you go with a heavy trailer). The slider does not control the voltage - you have to hit the + / - buttons to do that.
My best guess is you are going to end up around 7 or 7.5 as your setting but each trailer varies so much that it is hard to make a general rule. BTW, once you have it where you want it, take up to speed and then do a quick stop (not a panic stop). The whole rig should stop as a unit.
If I remember right according to the prodigy manual, it says to get up to 25-30 mph and hit the manual lever just as described here and keep turning and trying it until you get your trailer brakes to lock up. That will give you a place to start at. Adjust them after that to your likings.
On the Tekonsha not only can you just them with the knob but also by what degree its mounted. I remember once I bumped it with my knee and had to reset the whole thing

RE: Toyota could overtake GM in U.S. sales

Honda's car sales, adjusted for 3 fewer selling days than in 2007, were up 34% from a year ago; its truck sales were off 24%. Sales of Civics jumped 23%, sales of the small Fit were up 100.5%. The Odyssey minivan sales were off .8.6%, and the Pilot pickup was down 21%.

The Banana Test

The Banana Test
There is a very, very tall coconut tree and there are 4 animals, a Lion, a Chimpanzee, a Giraffe, and a Squirrel, who pass by.
They decide to compete to see who is the fastest to get a banana off the tree.
Who do you guess will win?
Your answer will reflect your personality.
So think carefully . . .. Try and answer within 30 seconds -
Got your answer?
Now scroll down to see the analysis.
If your answer is:
Lion = you're dull.
Chimpanzee = you're a moron.
Giraffe = you're a complete idiot.
Squirrel = you're just hopelessly stupid.
A COCONUT TREE DOESN'T HAVE BANANAS.
Obviously you're stressed and overworked.
You should take some time off and relax!
Try again next year.

RE: Poison Ivy Question

Poison ivy and poison oak doesn't bother me. I can lie down in it and it doesn’t affect me. The only thing that affects me is those wild elephant ears that grows down in these parts. Mostly where it stays wet. I once took a weedeater after them and the juice got onto my legs and I made a bee line to the shower.

RE: Gregor alum. boat ??

My father-in-law had a Gregor V bottom boat like that and it was the most unstable boat I’ve ever been in. It was real rocky, if you weren’t real careful it would pitch you out of it if you were up and moving around while it was at a stand still. While it was moving it was fine
I much prefer one that size that has a little more flat bottom.
